Working Party on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, 70th session

The Working Party will monitor the status of the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR) and related multilateral/bilateral agreements. The Working Party will also consider proposals of amendments to Annexes A and B of ADR concerning in particular operation and construction of vehicles for the transport of dangerous goods and tank-vehicles. It will also consider questions related to the safety of the transport of dangerous goods in tunnels and to the follow-up of the Convention on Civil Liability for Damage Caused during Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road, Rail and Inland Navigation Vessels (CRTD) (Agenda: TRANS/WP.15/164).

Joint ECE/Eurostat Work Session on Migration Statistics

This ECE-Eurostat joint meeting is being organized in cooperation with the United Nations Statistics Division (NY). It is expected to assist ECE countries in assessing the extent to which they can implement the new set of the UN Recommendations on International Migration Statistics. The meeting will also provide a platform for countries to discuss methods of measuring inflows and outflows based on different definitions and data sources used and on coverage and reliability. Issues related to the cooperation between the national statistical offices and other governmental ministries and agencies will be also considered. Eurostat will also present a report on progress made in the second phase of its migration project for countries in Mediterranean Region, and ILO will make a presentation on strategies for developing statistics on the international migration of workers.

Joint Meeting of the RID Safety Committee and the ECE Working Party on the Transport of Dangerous Goods

The Joint Meeting will consider proposals of amendment to texts common to the Regulations concerning the international Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Rail (RID) and Annexes A and B of the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR), submitted by Contracting Parties or the secretariat. These proposals concern inter alia harmonization of RID and ADR with the UN Model Regulations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, questions relating to the carriage of gases, transport documents and construction of tank-containers (Agenda: TRANS/WP.15/AC.1/83).

The 42nd session will consider amendments to ECE exhaust emission Regulations (including also gas-fuelled engines), and a proposal for new Regulation concerning the power measurement of non-road mobile machinery engines. Preparation should start for a round-table concerning "New Vehicle Propulsion Technologies" (February 2002). Before and after the GRPE session there will be informal meetings focusing on particulate emissions and the development of emission test cycles for heavy-duty engines and for motorcycles.

Task Force on Measurement and Modelling (second meeting)

The Task Force will continue to prepare an assessment report covering air pollution trends over the past 20 years. It will discuss the atmospheric modelling and monitoring of heavy metals pollution and new developments in modelling acidifying and ozone-forming pollutants. A meeting of the EIONET of the European Environment Agency is held in conjunction with this meeting and a joint session will be organized.
