The 37th session of WP.1 will continue
its consideration of proposed amendments to the Vienna Conventions
and European Agreements on road traffic and on road signs and signals
as well as the revision of the consolidated resolutions on road
traffic (R.E.1) and on road signs and signals (R.E.2). Within this
framework, WP.1 will examine in particular issues related to mobile
phone use, definitions of mopeds and motorcycles, behaviour at pedestrian
crossings, safety of pedestrians, driving permits, the placement
of distinguishing signs, accident black spot signs, roller skaters,
use of daytime running lamps, technical inspections, siting of traffic
signs and harmonization of roads signs. The first day of the session
(10 September) will be devoted to an evaluation of the Third Road
Safety Week (1-7 May 2000).

The workshop aims to 1. Review forest policy developments
and the related institutional changes in CEECs during the transition
process and discuss their outcomes; 2. identify major challenges

for action; 4. identify further strategic directions of the international
cooperation in the forestry sector of CEECs. The workshop is being
conducted under the auspices of the UNECE Timber Committee and FAO
European Forestry Commission in conjunction with the Ministerial
Conference for the Protection of Forests in Europe and being organized
by the Ministry of Environment of Poland. During the workshop there
will be a meeting of the UNECE/FAO Team of Specialists to Monitor
and Develop Assistance to Countries of Central and Eastern Europe
in Transition.
