SPECA

The United Nations Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA: Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan) aims to strengthen sub-regional cooperation in Central Asia and its integration into the world economy.

In line with the overall objectives, SPECA Programme Working Group on Statistics (PWGS) in cooperation with major partners in the region:
  • promotes and coordinate capacity-building programmes and activities in SPECA member countries;
  • promotes the compliance of national statistical methodology and dissemination practices with international guidelines and recommendations;
  • stimulates the exchange of best national practices among SPECA countries; and
  • secures funds and technical assistance for statistical capacity-building operations from multilateral and bilateral donors.
