On 21 July 2023, the Special Envoy met with H.E. Ms. Rina Yessenia Lozano Gallegos, Permanent Representative of El Salvador to the UN Office at Geneva. The Special Envoy took this opportunity to speak about the upcoming visit to San Salvador on 23-24 August 2023; and elaborate on the road safety situation in the country as well as recommend solutions, including accession to the UN road safety legal instruments as El Salvador is contracting party to none of the 7 Conventions; improvement of vehicle standards; and establishment of a national restraint law on children seated in the front seat as well as in the front and back.
