Opportunites and Challenges for Economic Development  
Part I of the Policy Segment will address the following issues:
  • Trade facilitation's impact on the competitiveness of companies, nations and regions, and, thus on economic development
  • Objectives of negotiations on trade facilitation in the WTO, with their focus on Articles V, VIII and X of the GATT
  • Costs and benefits of trade facilitation measures, and their influence on economic development

Implementation Challenges: The Normative Role of UNECE  
Part II of the Policy Segment will address the following issues:
  • Normalization and standardization, and their relevance to particular rules and obligations under the WTO Agreements
  • UNECE trade and transport facilitation standards and instruments to address the operational aspects of Articles V, VIII and X of the GATT
  • UNECE Capacity Building to enhance implementation of its standards and instruments
