The TIR secretariat has been informed that, as of 1 January 2009, the guarantee sum per TIR Carnet in the Russian Federation and Belarus has been fixed at EUR 60'000. This amount has been agreed between the Customs Administrations, national guaranteeing associations, IRU and international insurer. It is expected that, with the introduction of the new guarantee level, the use of Customs escorts will decrease in both countries.
