UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Road Safety


United Nations Secretary-General announced on 29 April 2015 the appointment of Jean Todt as his Special Envoy for Road Safety. Mr. Todt is the President of Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) - Terms of Reference and Mr. Todt's CV.

Every year, some 1.3 million people are killed and up to 50 million people are injured on the world’s roads. Half of all road traffic deaths are among vulnerable road users such as pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists. In Focus

The number of road fatalities in the Arab region in 2013 increased by 1.05% compared with 2010, while it should have declined by 9.3% to achieve results consistent with the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020. It is in this context that a regional workshop on road safety management in the Arab countries was held on 27-28 November 2018 in Beirut, Lebanon, under the auspices of the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Road Safety.
