Supporting cities in urban resilience building for inclusive responses and recovery

Side event to the UNECE Urban Resilience Week 2023

04 October 2023
in-person and online Palais des Nations Geneva Switzerland

Time: 1.15 - 2.45 p.m. CET

The side event was held in person at Tempus Conference Hall, Palais des Nations, Geneva and online in WebEx.

In 2020-2022, the United Nations Regional Economic Commissions (RECs), in collaboration with UN-HABITAT CRGP and the UN Capital Development Fund (UNCDF), supported 16 pilot cities globally to strengthen their capacities to design, implement and monitor sustainable, resilient and inclusive COVID-19 economic and financial responses, recovery and rebuilding plans as part of a United Nations Development Account project.

As a follow-up to this successful cooperation, RECs and UN-Habitat, in cooperation with the Global Cities Hub, will work together from 2023 to 2025 to provide a more focused support to cities to implement inclusive and resilient economic and financial responses to crises. The new project will support five pilot cities from different regions, focusing on urban resilience in the context of the triple planetary crisis. The side event discussed approaches for this new project.
