Global Nature Based Solutions to Mine Tailing Wastewater: From Research to Practice

02 November 2023 14:00 - 17:00
Almaty and online Kazakhstan

Compared to traditional high-tech engineering methods, Nature-based solutions (NbS) can offer more sustainable approaches to deal with industrial waste, with the availability of space and time to be implemented. This international event, convened by the Sustainable Kazakhstan Research Institute at the Narxoz University, with support from the TAUW Foundation and other private investors, brought industry experts, professionals and leaders together to explore the use of NbS for mine tailings wastewate management comprehensively.

The conference covered a wide range of topics, including industry perspectives in NbS, field research results, practical examples, international promotion and innovations. It also highlighted the need to further develop and tailor NbS designs to continue to apply them in mine tailing safety management. Further information about the conference can be found here: Recording from the meeting and Event Post on Innovative solutions applied to some of world’s most pressing sustainability challenges

The UNECE Convention on the Transboundary Effects of Industrial Accidents contributed to the event by making a presentation on “UNECE’s work and perspectives on strengthening mine tailings safety and governance”.
