Energy Efficiency Standards in Buildings in the ECE region

The UNECE CHLM at its 75th session in October 2014 (ECE/HBP/2014-4) approved the proposal of developing Standards on Energy Efficiency in Buildings. The secretariat of CHLM established contact and is partnering with the secretariat of the Committee on Sustainable Energy (CSE) and the UNECE Working Party on Regulatory Cooperation and Standardization Policies (WP6) to work on this topic.

Survey on building standards and regulations and the expert consultation meeting

In March 2015, the UNECE sent a questionnaire to member States with the aim to identify areas and activities in the field of building standards and regulations where the UNECE can support member States. The results of the surveyed areas are published in the online report Outcomes of the Survey on Building Standards and Building Regulations in the UNECE Region.

Furthermore, in April 2015, the UNECE CHLM and the CSE organized the Expert Consultation on Energy-Efficiency Standards in Buildings. Representatives of relevant stakeholders discussed the way ahead for promoting the use of standards to enhance energy efficiency in the building sector.

Establishment of the Joint Task Force on Energy Efficiency Standards in Buildings

In 2016, the CHLM and the CSE established the Joint Task Force on Energy Efficiency Standards in Buildings, which includes government officials, international organizations and other relevant stakeholders’ representatives. Both Committees extended the mandate of the group until 2019.
