UN cooperation in the UNECE region


The 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) require more coordination, coherence and cooperation among United Nations organizations. In the UNECE region, more than 20 United Nations organizations pool their expertise and coordinate their activities to maximize the impact of their work across Europe and Central Asia. UN entities in Europe and Central Asia close ranks to support SDG progress

In view of member States requiring more joined-up UN support to progress under the comprehensive 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the regional UN entities in Europe and Central Asia continue to move closer together to meet this demand. Gathering at the Regional UN System Meeting at the Palais des Nations in Geneva on 15 and 16 November 2018, hosted by UNECE, Regional Directors and representatives of more than 20 UN regional offices reaffirmed their commitment to deepen cooperation, seek synergies and pool expertise in support of SDGs. Launch of the UN Common Position on Ending HIV, TB and Viral Hepatitis

Developed within the regional Issue-based Coalition on Health and Well-being for All at All Ages, signed by the regional representatives of 14 United Nations agencies and endorsed at the regional United Nations System Meeting, the Common Position aims to guide multisectoral collaboration across health and non-health sectors in their efforts to end these epidemics. The Common Position was launched in New York on 27 September 2018, following the first High-Level Meeting on TB held by the UN General Assembly.
