UNECE launches on-line survey on the TIR system

Geneva, 21 July 2009 --

The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) has recently commissioned a study to identify possible strategic improvements to the TIR Convention. The study will review the current TIR system in comparison with alternative solutions for customs transit in the various modes of transport. An analysis of the current market demand and of recent political, economic, structural and technological changes will be assessed according to the short-, mid- and long-term impacts on the TIR system.

As part of the study, an on-line survey has been developed. This survey seeks to obtain views on the existing transit systems in the various modes of transport as well as on their future developments from the perspective of a wide range of stakeholders, including shippers, logistics and transport operators, customs administrations, transport authorities and relevant non-governmental organizations.

The survey is available at http://unece.unog.ch/tir/
