Moldova joins the Protocol to the CMR Convention
Geneva, 1 June 2007 -- On 31 May 2007, Moldova acceded to the 1978
Protocol to the Convention on the Contract for the International Carriage
of Goods by Road (CMR). This brings the total number of contracting parties
to the Protocol to 36. The Protocol to the CMR will enter into force for
Moldova on 29 August 2007.
The CMR Convention fixes the conditions of contract for the carriage of
goods by road between the forwarder and the carrier. In particular, it provides
for the use of the consignment note and establishes the conditions for liability,
for example in the case of loss of goods or delays.
In the framework of the UNECE Working Party on Road Transport (SC.1), Governments
are currently negotiating an additional Protocol to the CMR, which would allow
the use of electronic consignment notes in international road transport.
