Measurement of social protection

Review paper by UNECE

In-depth review of measurement of social protection
The CES Bureau reviewed measurement of social protection in January 2014, and recognised the need for more harmonisation in measuring social protection. Measuring social protection is a complex area of high policy importance.

Outcome of the review
In February 2015, the CES Bureau had a discussion with ILO and the Social Protection Inter-agency Cooperation Board (SPIAC-B) on their work and links with the CES work programme. The meeting concluded that the work of SPIAC-B will take into account the harmonization and international comparability issues which the CES Bureau raised during the in-depth review.

Related initiatives
SPIAC-B is working towards harmonization in measurement of social protection. The need for better harmonization of social protection statistics is especially relevant for developing countries, and could be revisited in the future in connection with the SDGs.
