United Nations Development Account

The United Nations Development Account (UNDA) provides a common platform for the technical cooperation work of 10 entities of the Executive Committee on Economic and Social Affairs (DESA, UN Regional Commissions, UNCTAD, UNEP, Habitat and UNODC). It was established by the General Assembly in 1997 and is funded from the UN regular budget.
The objective of the UNDA is to fund capacity development projects in the priority areas of the United Nations Development Agenda that benefit developing countries and countries with economies in transition. The projects serve as a natural extension to the normative and policy activities of the implementing entities in their follow-up to the United Nations conferences and summits in economic and social affairs. The UNDA encourages close collaboration of entities of the UN Secretariat on innovative, cross-sectoral regional or interregional projects which draw mainly on the technical, human and other resources available in beneficiary countries.
UNECE has been actively involved in the implementation of the UNDA projects since 2000. Through the UNDA projects the UNECE in collaboration with other UN agencies, programmes and funds promotes joint interventions aimed at addressing development problems, tackling transboundary issues and providing regional public goods. Implementation of the UNDA projects focused on capacity building in the areas of environment protection, trade facilitation, clean energy, development of interregional transport linkages, and statistics. This enables UNECE to further strengthen linkages between its normative, analytical and operational activities and support efforts of countries to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the UNECE region.
All UNDA projects implemented by UNECE can be found here
