Defining the urban agenda of the future

What are the key urban development and housing issues in our region? How to define the housing policies of the future in order to address them? And how to make these work sustainably? Just one month ahead of the Third United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development - HABITAT III in Quito, Ecuador (17-21 October), these issues will be at the center of the debates in Geneva next week.

The HABITAT III regional report for the UNECE region, which is the input of the Pan-European Region into the discussions that will lead to the adoption of the New Urban Agenda in Quito, will be presented during the Habitat III Urban Lunch, on 13 September.

The event will take place in the framework of the 77th session of the Committee on Housing and Land Management (13-14 September 2016). The session will bring together high-level representatives of governments and stakeholders from the UNECE region to discuss the implementation of the Geneva UN Charter on Sustainable Housing, the Committee's Strategy for Sustainable Housing and Land Management in the UNECE region 2014-2020, its work programme for 2016-2017 and national policies on housing, urban development and land management.

The debates will continue on 15 September at the conference "The Housing Policies of our Future: How to make them work", organized jointly by the Government of Slovakia, UNECE and the European Federation of Public, Cooperative & Social Housing. The conference takes place within the framework of the “Housing for All” campaign,  calling for EU institutions, EU member states, local authorities and housing providers to work together to boost the supply of affordable homes for livable communities.
