Vulnerable road users are more exposed to the
risk of accidents than other road users.
In 1997 an estimated 19% of persons involved
in serious accidents (injured or killed) were
vulnerable road users.
|
When accidents occur they have much more serious
consequences for vulnerable road users than for
others. Although only an estimated 19% of those
involved in serious accidents in 1997 were vulnerable
road users, an estimated 37% of the persons killed
were vulnerable road users. |
