Global Forum for Road Traffic Safety
The UNECE pioneered road safety activities in the United Nations system with the establishment of an Ad Hoc Working Group on the prevention of road accidents in 1950. In 1988, the Working Party on Road Traffic Safety (WP.1), an intergovernmental body, was established.
Today, WP.1 remains the only permanent body in the United Nations system that focuses on improving road safety (see road safety film). Its primary function is to serve as guardian of the United Nations legal instruments aimed at harmonizing traffic rules. More...
The Global Forum for Road Traffic Safety (WP.1) issues a brochure on International Driving Permit Categories which recommends reconciliations of the differences between the International Driving Permit categories in the 1968 Convention on Road Traffic and the corresponding definitions in the EU Driving Licence Directive (2006/126/EC of 20 December) 2006).
Cyprus accedes to the European Agreement supplementing the Convention on Road Signs and Signals, 1971 (map and Depositary Notification), the Protocol on Road Markings (map and Depositary Notification) and the Convention on Road Signs and Signals, 1968 (map and Depositary Notification).
