TheexpertfromtheEuropeanCommissionconfirmedthattheEUWorking  PartyonEconomicQuestionshadagreedontyre/noiselimitsandsaidthatfurthermeetingshadbeenscheduledbytheFinnishEUpresidencyinordertofinalizetheentireproposal.6.  _GRB_ԀagreedtoexamineindetailtheproposalforanewdraftRegulation  onrollingsoundemissionspresentedby_ETRTO_Ԁ(TRANS/WP.29/_GRB_/1999/5).Inthediscussionwhichfollowedmanyamendmentswereproposedandsomeofthemagreed(seeannex2tothisreport).However,asuitabledefinitionoftypeoftyreswasnotfound,sincesomedelegations(e.g.theUnitedKingdom)believedthattheoneproposedby_ETRTO_Ԁwasnotdetailedenoughtocoveralltyrecharacteristicsaffectingtyre/roadnoiseemissions.7.  Inthisrespecttheexpertfrom_ETRTO_Ԁexpressedhisconcernonthe ! $ requestfromtheUnitedKingdomtohaveamoredetaileddefinitionoftyretypeandreminded_GRB_ԀthatsuchdefinitionwouldrequiretechnicalservicestocarryoutthousandsoftypeapprovalteststhroughoutEurope(about80,000)duringthefirstfewyearsaftertheentryintoforceoftheRegulation.Therefore,heexpressedtheintentionofhisorganizationtocooperateinfindingasuitabletyretypedefinitionandinvitedtheexpertstoavoidnotmanageableburdenforthemanufacturers.  8.  TheexpertfromtheUnitedStatesofAmericarecalledtheneedfora  ((#- worldwideharmonizationoftyreregulationsandinvitedthegrouptodeferanydecisiontothetimeaftertheentryintoforceoftheGlobalAgreement,thatinhisopinionshouldalsodealwiththissubject.9. FollowingaproposalmadebytheexpertfromtheUnitedKingdom,_GRB_   agreedtoaddsomeadministrativeprescriptionsregardingtheconformityofproduction.TheChairmanalsoinvitedtheexpertstopropose,ifnecessary,transitionalprovisions.11.  _GRB_Ԁagreedtoresumediscussionofthedraftregulationontyre/road    noiseonthebasisofdocumentTRANS/WP.29/_GRB_/1999/5whichheproposedshouldberevisedaccordingtotheamendmentssuggestedinannex2tothisreport.ThesecretarywasalsoaskedtoissuewithanofficialsymbolinformaldocumentNo.7whichwasdistributedduringthesessionbytheexpertfromtheUnitedKingdom.12.  _GRB_Ԁconsideredagainthetextoftechnicalannexesconcerningthetest / methodandthetestsite(TRANS/WP.29/_GRB_/1999/3),inordertoconsidersomeamendmentsagreedbytheEUCouncil(seepara.3above).13.  TheexpertfromFrancereminded_GRB_Ԁthat,inthefuture,newtypesof O0 commercialvehicletyreshavingamuchwidercrosssectionwouldbeputonthemarket,inordertoreplacetyresintendedfordualmounting(twinning).Herecalledhisproposaltomodifythetestmethodformeasuringthetyre/roadnoiselevelinordertoallowadifferentformofmountingthesetyresonatestvehicle(TRANS/WP.29/_GRB_/1999/2).Hesaidthatsuchamendmentwouldavoidtheriskofexceedingthepermissiblemaximummassonthefrontaxleaswellasdifficultiesofmountingverywidetyresonthefrontaxle,resultinginalargeincreaseintheturningradiusandapoormanoeuvrabilityofthevehicle.14.
