At its third
session (14 December 2006), the Committee of Experts
on the Transport of Dangerous Goods and on the Globally
Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling
of Chemicals (GHS) adopted a set of amendments to
the Model Regulations on the Transport of Dangerous
Goods, which were consolidated in documents ST/SG/AC.10/34/Add.1 and -/Corr.1.
The fifteenth revised
edition of the Recommendations takes account of all
these amendments which concern, inter alia, the inclusion of new provisions (e.g.: provisions for the transport of dangerous goods packed in excepted quantities and for the transport of fuel cell cartridges, packing instructions for chlorosilanes) or revision of existing provisions (e.g.: addition of new entries to the list of organic peroxides, packing instructions for gases, requirements for the construction and testing of packagings for infectious substances of category A, requirements for the construction and testing of intermediate bulk containers).
Close cooperation with the International Atomic Energy
Agency (IAEA) also continued and resulted in an editorial revision of the provisions concerning the transport of radioactive material.
The Committee adopted also amendments to the "Recommendations
on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests
and Criteria" (ST/SG/AC.10/34/Add.2),
published as amendment 2 to the fourth
revised edition of the Manual (ST/SG/AC.10/11/Rev.4/Amend.2),
as well as amendments to the "Globally Harmonized
System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals"
(ST/SG/AC.10/34/Add.3 and -/Corr.1)
which are reflected in the second revised edition (published
as document ST/SG/AC.10/30/Rev.2).
