The computerisation of TIR and the security declaration in the European Union

In anticipation of the entry into force of an EU Regulation, requiring that TIR Carnet data be lodged electronically at EU Customs offices of departure or entry en route as of 1 January 2009, the secretariat refers to a presentation given by the European Commission at the 117th session of the Working Party on Customs Questions affecting Transport (WP.30). This presentation explains the NCTS/TIR declaration mechanism. In addition, it provides information on the initiative to lodge an advance cargo declaration on import in or export from the EU (applicable as of 1 July 2009).
