We work to facilitate the international movement of persons and goods by inland transport modes and improve competitiveness, safety, energy efficiency and security in the transport sector taking into account environmental protection to levels that reduce adverse environmental impact of transport activities and contribute effectively to sustainable development.

General Assembly resolution A/RES/66/260 requested UNECE and other UN regional commissions to organize activities during the second United Nations Global Road Safety Week to raise awareness about road safety issues. The second United Nations Global Road Safety Week was held on 6-12 May 2013. UNECE commemorated the week in Geneva, Switzerland, with four key events and a poster exhibition. The events included a symposium on regional perspectives on drinking and driving, an interactive youth and young leaders session “Scouting for Global Road Safety”, a roundtable and poster exhibition dedicated to International Level Crossing Awareness Day, and a discussion forum on insurance and road safety.

On December 2012, Turkey acceded to the Agreement on International Carriage of Perishable Foodstuffs (ATP) and Republic of Moldova acceded to the Convention on the contract for the international carriage of passengers and luggage by road (CVR). See also the Contracting Parties page.
