Maria L. Ortiz has fourteen years of experience in trade and economic development. She joined the Inter-American Development Bank in 2009 as a consultant and specializes on trade facilitation. Ms. Ortiz has worked on a range of trade facilitation operations in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as integration initiatives in Europe and Asia. Prior to joining the IDB, she worked for the Colombian government at the Department of Transportation and the Superintendency of Ports. She also worked for private sector companies as an adviser on trade and competitiveness.
Her academic background includes a law degree and master’s degree in commercial law from Universidad Libre and Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Colombia, as well as a master’s degree in international commerce and policy from George Mason University (USA).
