High-level Workshop on
The Economic Dimension of Security in Europe:
Facing New Challenges in a Changing Environment

The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), jointly with the Organization for Security and Co-operation
in Europe (OSCE), will organize on 8 March a one-day high-level Workshop on the "The Economic Dimension of Security in Europe:
Facing New Challenges in a Changing Environment". The Workshop is part of the UNECE "Wider Europe" project.
The Workshop is expected to:
- Explore how regional cooperation and integration between the
enlarged EU and non-acceding transition economies will affect the future
shape and direction of the economic dimension of security in the next
decade, while avoiding the creation of new divisions in the region;
- Examine the factors contributing to threats of the economic
security in the region, such as weak governance, lack of rule of law,
and economic and social disparities;
- Discuss how to address related issues such as transborder crime and other illegal economic activities.
Speakers and participants will include representatives of: international organizations; Governments and
Parliaments of UNECE and OSCE member countries; the European Commission; business; NGOs and academia.
