| The
Strategic Review is an assessment of the
UNECE/FAO integrated programme of work on Timber and Forestry,
covering all aspects: broad direction and objectives, mandates
of the UNECE Timber Committee and the FAO European Forestry
Commission and subsidiary bodies, structure and content of
programme, resources, methods, partnerships, outputs, etc.
The
UNECE Timber Committee and the FAO European Forestry Commission
have agreed to hold the third Strategic Review in 2007-2008.
Previous reviews were held in 2001and
2004.
Through
the input of governments and a large variety of stakeholders, along with the assessment of selected programme
data and self-evaluations, the achievements of the UNECE/FAO
programme of the past four years are being reviewed and a
programme and strategic plan up to 2013 proposed. These inputs and self-evaluations have been reviewed at the joint Bureaux meeting in Rome on 20 February 2008, which provided the basis for the elaboration of a proposed Strategic Plan by the secretariat.
The main
occasion to agree on the Strategic Plan for the period
2008-2013 will be the Special Session on the Strategic Review and Plan,
28-30 April 2008 in Geneva. The Strategic Plan will
then be formally launched during the European Forest Week
in Rome, taking place from 20 - 24 October 2008.
We have also invited our major stakeholders, including the
private sector, the research community and civil society,
as well as partner organisations, to provide their views on
our activities, ongoing and potential cooperation. Should
you like to contribute as a stakeholder and partner to the
process and should we not have addressed you directly, please
write to us at strategicreview.timber@unece.org,
and send your responses to the below Questionnaire addressed
to stakeholders and partners to the UNECE/FAO secretariat
by 17 December 2007.
