The Second Ministerial Conference on the Protection of
Forests in Europe (MCPFE), held in Helsinki in 1993,
adopted Resolution H3, which concerns Forestry assistance to countries with
economies in transition, and wherein signatory countries and the
European Union made a number of commitments in this respect. The mandate to
monitor forestry activities aimed at the implementation of Resolution H3
was entrusted to UNECE/FAO Timber Branch in Geneva. The key tool for
monitoring and coordination of activities in this area is an Access database, which was developed by the
Timber Branch with the direct input from the signatory countries.
