Vehicles with sliding sheets acceptable under the TIR procedure Relevant amendments to the TIR Convention, 1975 come into force

28 May 2001

Amendment proposals adopted by the TIR Administrative Committee (29. session, Geneva, 19 and 20 October 2000) relating to the validity of vehicles and containers with sliding sheets under the TIR Customs transit procedure will come into force on 12 June 2001.
None of the 64 Contracting Parties to the Convention has raised an objection to the proposed amendments by 12 May 2001. The relevant Depositary Notification will be issued by the Legal Office of the United Nations in New York in due course.
The amendments to the TIR Convention will allow the use of load compartments of vehicles and the use of containers with sliding sheets under Customs seal provided that a number of minimum technical requirements in their construction are met.
The complete text of these amendments to Annexes 2 and 7 to the TIR Convention is contained in the report of the Administrative Committee (TRANS/WP.30/AC.2/59, annex 4 and Corr. 1 and Corr. 2). This document may be obtained from the UN/ECE secretariat or can be viewed and downloaded from the TIR web site (www.unece.org/tir/welcome.html).
