The Yearbook provides statistical information on the 55 member countries of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (list of member countries and a map). A complete data set from the 2003 publication is available online (in Excel, country profiles in pdf-format). (From March 2004 the access is free, there is no need to register.)

The first part of the publication presents economic and social profiles of the countries. The data for these profiles are for the most recent year available, usually 2001. The 13 chapters in the second part paint a broad picture of recent social and economic life in the countries of the region. Each chapter focuses on one of the following fields: population, families and households, education, employment, economy, health, housing, transport and tourism, energy, environment, communication, participation, crime and safety (table of contents).
