Measuring Sustainable Development

Sustainable development is a popular and important concept, but one that is open to a variety of interpretations.

This publication presents the work of the joint UNECE/OECD/Eurostat Working Group on Statistics for Sustainable Development. It identifies good concepts and practices to assist national govenments and international organizations in the design of sustainable development indicator sets. It also provides recommendations for further work.

UNECE Countries in Figures 2009

This handy booklet gives a one-page profile of the 56 UNECE member countries situated in Europe, North America, the Caucasus and Central Asia. The profile includes key facts and a map of each country, demographic data and indicators of gender equality, employment, national accounts, prices, trade and transport.

Published every two years, UNECE Countries in Figures is aimed at readers who are not necessarily familiar with statistical terminology or with interpreting tables. It is an example of the many different types of data available on-line through the UNECE Statistical Database.
