About the Conference of European Statisticians

 

UNECE statistical work is steered by the Conference of European Statisticians (CES), under the joint auspices of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe and the United Nations Statistical Commission.

 

Rules and procedures governing the work of the Conference and its Bureau

 

 

The main objectives of the Conference of European Statisticians are:

  1. to improve national statistics and their international comparability with regard to the recommendations of the Statistical Commission of the United Nations, the Specialised Agencies and other appropriate bodies as necessary

  2. to promote close coordination of the statistical activities in Europe of international organizations so as to achieve greater uniformity in concepts and definitions and to reduce to a minimum the burdens on national statistical offices

  3. to respond to any emerging need for international statistical cooperation both within the UNECE region and between the UNECE region and other regions

  4. to discuss and adopt statistical standards in UNECE region.

 

Detailed information on activities undertaken in the UNECE region by the Conference and about 30 international organizations, is available in the Database of International Statistical Activities (DISA), which is regularly updated.  

 

DISA presents the statistical activities being undertaken by international organizations, including the UNECE, across ECE region.

 

Meetings of the Conference of European Statisticians

The annual plenary sessions of the Conference take place in June and are attended by heads of national statistical offices.  See also:
