Environment statistics

The UNECE Committee on Environmental Policy (CEP) and the Bureau of the Conference of European Statisticians (CES) agreed to cooperate on methodological issues of environmental indicators. The aim is to help the countries in Eastern Europe, Caucasus, Central Asia and South-Eastern Europe to strengthen environmental data collection, produce environmental indicators and promote comparability of environmental statistics. As a first step, a meeting will be organized jointly with the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) in New York to train experts of interested UNECE countries in producing environmental indicators. The workshop will bring together both environmental experts and statisticians.

The UNECE Program on Environmental Policy provides secretariat support to the Working Group on Environmental Monitoring and Assessment. This group is developing indicators to be used for environmental reporting in Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia (EECCA).
