In1992theNationalStatisticalInstitutedrewupaprogrammecovering  *T$V thestrategyandmethodologyforstatisticalsurveysintheagriculturalsectorduringthetransitiontoamarketeconomy.AregisterofprivatefarmsϜwassetupin1993,inresponsetoadecisionbythemanagementoftheInstitute;itisnotapartoftheBulgarianUnifiedRegisterofEconomically $-l'Z  `}   `}  ActiveEntities.Undercurrentlegislation,privatefarmsdonothavetobelistedontheUnifiedRegister,whichrecordsonlyfarmingcooperativesandassociationsregisteredbythecourts.16.  Theregisterofprivatefarmsisusedonlyforstatisticalpurposes,  Мand \  listsaddressesandthemainfeaturesoffarmproduction.Itisfullyupdatedateachcensus,andpartiallysowhensamplesurveysareconducted.Asaccountingentitiesittakesallprivatefarmsthatownland,raiselivestockandpossessequipment.Farmingassociationsarealsoincluded.ϜThefarmsontheregisteraccountforasubstantialproportionofthecountrysagriculturaloutput.17. Amethodfortheconductofsamplesurveyswasdevelopedin1993,anda 0x pilotsurveythatsameyearmarkedthestartofregularsurveys.Asamplesurveyoflandsowntocropsandpermanentcrops,livestock,farmequipmentandthepeopleemployedonprivatefarmswasconductedin1994.Forconsistency,usewasmadeofalistofprivatefarmsdrawnupon1July1993.Thelistgroupsfarmstogetherbyextentoffarmland.ThesurveywastakeninaccordancewithaplandesignedbytheNationalStatisticalInstituteandapprovedbytheNationalAssembly.Thesamplesizewas5%,andthesamplewasstratifiedbyamountoflandowned.Dataweregatheredbyinvestigatorswhofilledinquestionnaires.19.  Asamplesurveyofstaplecropoutputandproductioncostswasconducted  on15November1994.Thesamplewas30%ofthatusedinthe1July1993survey.Itwasnotstratified.ThedataweregatheredbyinvestigatorswithϜquestionnaires.Similarsurveyswereconducted,withsomemethodologicalimprovements,in1995and1996.Forwantoffinancialresources,nosamplesurveywasconductedon15November1996.20.
