1. At the 1994 plenary session the Conference reviewed the draft Declaration that the Bureau had recommended be submitted to the World Summit on Social Development that was to be held in Copenhagen in March 1995. The Conference agreed that the Declaration would make a useful contribution to the Social Summit and to the development of social statistics and indicators. It endorsed the draft declaration with the provision that some modification be made to the text to reflect the views which the Conference had expressed on the draft (ECE/CES/45, paras. 79-80).
2. The draft declaration was amended subsequent to the plenary session and reviewed by the Bureau at its October 1994 meeting. The Bureau agreed at that meeting that the amended version of the declaration should be submitted to the Social Summit as a contribution from the Conference.
3. The amended version of the Declaration is reproduced as an addendum of this note. It was distributed to delegations at the World Summit in that form. It will also be reproduced in the forthcoming issue of the Statistical Journal of the UN Economic Commission for Europe.
