We are working towards improving international comparability of health status statistics in the UNECE region.
Current work in the area of health statistics, promoted by the Conference of European Statisticians, is directed towards reaching a consensus on the concept, measurement and reporting of health status, and developing common core measures to guarantee international comparability of statistics on health status. To achieve this goal, the Budapest Initiative, a joint effort of UNECE, WHO and Eurostat, in partnership with the Washington Group on Disability Statistics, has a mandate to develop common instruments to measure health status in its multiple dimensions.
Through the Budapest Initiative, our current priority is:
- to develop effective tools and support UNECE member countries to design surveys on the measurement of health status
- to promote the usage of common terminology and methodology.
