As requested by the ECE Committee on Forests and the Forest Industry and the FAO European Forestry Commission at their joint meeting in Rovaniemi, Finland (9-13 December 2013), the Joint ECE/FAO Forestry and Timber Section organized an expert workshop to exchange views and develop ideas on how to include strategically forests in the Sustainable Development Goals.
One of the main outcomes of the Rio+20 Conference was the agreement by member States to launch a process to develop a set of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which will build upon the Millennium Development Goals and converge with the post 2015 development agenda. To learn more about the purpose and nature of SDGs, the intergovernmental process as well as background papers and other relevant documents kindly visit the UN DESA webpage.
