On 12 and 13 February, Mr. Jean Todt met with Dato Sri Liow Tiong Lai, Minister of Transport of Malaysia; and Professor Wong Shaw Voon, Director of the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS). After providing an introduction of his mandate as Special Envoy, Mr. Todt discussed with the Minister Liow Tiong Lai and Professor Wong Haw Voon, the road safety challenges in Malaysia. The potential strategies that could strengthen regional efforts and coordination on road safety were explored during meetings, including an establishment of a regional road safety observatory for South-East Asia. The Special Envoy congratulated the Minister for his commitment to significantly improving road infrastructure in Malaysia by 2020, which the Minister declared publicly during an event on 12 February.
