Regional TIR Seminar in Kyrgyz Republic on 25 and 26 July 2012
The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), the TIR Executive Board and the TIR secretariat, in close co-operation with the State Customs Service under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, organize a Regional TIR Seminar which will be held at the Hotel “Akmaral” on the lake Issyk-Kul on 25 and 26 July 2012.
The main purpose of the seminar is to analyze the current status of the TIR Convention as the only global customs transit regime and the unique international transport and trade facilitation tool as well as its outlook for the future. The event will also provide excellent opportunities to exchange experiences in the application of the TIR procedure in different regions, including Customs security issues. A large part of seminar will be devoted to a free exchange of views on today's situation in the field of customs transit in Central Asia and and its neighboring countries.
The Seminar will include presentations by high-level officials from Customs administrations of Contracting Parties to the TIR Convention, including the European Union, by chairs of several inter-governmental bodies of the TIR Convention as well as by senior experts from the International Road Transport Union (IRU) and the UNECE secretariat, who will examine the TIR Convention challenges and the opportunities which need to be addressed.
The TIR Seminar is designed for senior Governmental officials responsible for the policies in the field of customs and trade from the republics of Central Asia, neighboring countries as well as from states of transit connection with the region. The seminar is also open to representatives of the private sector who are involved in Customs transit procedures (national associations or road carriers, Chambers of Commerce, freight forwarders and/or Customs brokers).
Attached please find a Programme of the Seminar. More detailed information on the programme of the Seminar and on the participating experts will become available at the beginning of July. Each participant will receive a free copy of the latest edition of the TIR Handbook. At the end of the Seminar, certificates of attendance will be distributed to all participants. English and Russian will be the working languages. Full simultaneous interpretation into/from these languages will be provided.
Participation in the Seminar is free of charge for registered participants. Participants are however expected to cover their own travel costs, accommodation and other personal expenses. Each participant at the Seminar must register with the TIR secretariat prior to the Seminar using a copy of the attached seminar registration form. Participants are advised to return this form to the UNECE TIR secretariat as soon as possible but not later than on 1 July 2012.
Seminar participants are expected to make their own travel arrangements. The Hotel “Akmaral”, the venue of the Seminar, is located on the lake Issyk-Kul. Hotel bookings will be made for seminar participants and an airport transfer could be organised from Bishkek to the hotel if necessary. In order to make hotel reservations, participants should fill-in the respective section in the attached seminar registration form and return this form to the TIR secretariat as soon as possible but not later than on 1 July 2012.
