Governments are in the process of formulating Sustainable Development Goals and the post-2015 development agenda, which will succeed the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
The post-2015 priorities from the UNECE region can help inform the global negotiation process. The region holds lessons regarding the pursuit of economic growth, environmental sustainability and social inclusion. At the same time, the challenges of moving towards sustainable production and consumption patterns while still enjoying the benefits of economic growth and without exacerbating social tensions are relevant throughout the region.
The priorities of Europe and Central Asia for the post-2015 development agenda have been discussed at the Regional Consultation on “Inclusive and Sustainable Development: Perspectives from Europe and Central Asia on the Post-2015 Development Agenda”, held in Istanbul, Turkey, from 7–8 November 2013.
The perspective of the regional UN system is reflected in the 2013 publication “Building more inclusive, sustainable and prosperous societies in Europe and Central Asia – A common United Nations vision for the post-2015 development agenda”.
