In accordance with the rules of procedure for the meetings of the , the Bureau of the Meeting of the Parties is composed of not fewer than eight persons including the Chairperson and the two Vice-Chairpersons of the Meeting of the Parties, the Chairpersons of the Working Groups and, if applicable, other officers elected by the Meeting of the Parties.
At its sixth session (Rome, 28-30 November 2012), the Meeting of the Parties elected its Bureau as follows:

The main responsibilities of the Bureau include:
(a) making arrangements to further develop the workplan, adapting it to changing circumstances and avoiding, to the extent possible, duplication of efforts with water-related activities of other United Nations bodies and other international organizations;
(b) taking initiatives to strengthen implementation of the Convention; and
(c) carrying out other tasks entrusted to it by the Meeting of the Parties.
