A leaflet providing a brief introduction to UNECE's work on Abandoned Mine Methane has been issued (December 2020)

An updated leaflet briefly describing importance of coal mine methane, as well as the role and activities of the UNECE Group of Experts on CMM has been released.  

A two day-long capacity-building workshop on Best Practices in Coal Mine Methane Capture and Utilization was delivered jointly by the UNECE Group of Experts on CMM and GMI on 24-25 July 2018 in Bogota, Columbia. 

On 9 July 2018 the Secretariat participated in a dinner debate in the European Parliament in Brussels, Belgium, titled UN Sustainable Development Goal No. 7: Does coal have a role in providing affordable and clean energy? The International Centre of Excellence on Coal Mine Methane in Poland was nominated for an Emerging Europe Award in a category: Research & Development Initiative of the Year. The award ceremony took place on 22 June 2018 in London, UK. Read more

A one-day-long technical session titled Turning Coal Mine Methane into an Asset: Implementing Best Practices and Policies was delivered jointly by the Group of Experts on CMM and the Global Methane Initiative (GMI) within the framework of the 25th World Mining Congress (WMC), on 20 June 2018 in Astana, Kazakhstan

On 13 June in Gdańsk, Poland, the Secretariat participated in a conference on the Polish national policy on natural resources. Read more 

On 3-6 June the International Centre of Excellence on Coal Mine Methane in China delivered the first of the planned three stages of a pre-feasibility-study of methane drainage and utilization in a Tenghui coal mine. Read more 

The Group of Experts on Coal Mine Methane participated in the technical session titled Pre-mining methane capture from coal deposits in the context of environmental protection and diversification of gas sources for Poland delivered within the framework of the Gazterm Conference, held 6-9 May in Międzyzdroje, Poland.

UNECE Coal Mine Methane seminar organized by the UNECE Groups of Experts on Coal Mine Methane and on Cleaner Electricity Production will be delivered in cooperation with the Global Methane Initiative (GMI) within the framework of the Global Methane Forum on 16 April 2018 in Toronto, Canada. 

Workshop Coal Mine Methane as a Valuable Energy Source organised by the UNECE Group of Experts on Coal Mine Methane, the International Centre of Excellence on Coal Mine Methane in Poland (ICE-CMM Poland), and the Global Methane Initiative (GMI) was delivered within the framework of the School of Underground Mining on 28 February 2018, in Cracow, Poland. 

The opening ceremony of the International Centre of Excellence on Coal Mine Methane (ICE-CMM) in China took place within the framework of the 19th International Mining Congress of China and was followed by a short workshop organized by the Shanxi Coking Coal Group Co Ltd (SCCG), the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), and the Global Methane Initiative (GMI)
