The Group of Experts on Gas is a subsidiary body of the Committee on Sustainable Energy that provides a forum for multi-stakeholder dialogue on ways to promote the sustainable and clean production, distribution, and consumption of natural gas in the ECE region.
An exchange of experiences among ECE member States on the role of natural gas in the global energy mix and on the relation between natural gas and the environment are the Group's principal areas of work.
At this time the Group of Experts on Gas concentrates on:
- Best practice guidance to reduce gas leaks in the gas value chain
- Best policy practices on the role of natural gas in increasing the uptake of renewable energy
- Best practice policy guidance for liquefied natural gas (LNG)
- Removing barriers to the use of natural gas as a transportation fuel

Use of Gas in Transport
Study on the Use of Gas in Transport in the UNECE Area was launched at the 20th session of the Working Party on Gas (19 - 20 January 2010);
First Preparatory meeting of NGV experts was held on March 31st, 2010 in Moscow at VNIIGAZ (Gazprom). International Gas Union (IGU) joined the Study in the course of 2010 - the Use of Gas in Transport became a Global exercise comprising over 120 NGV experts all over the world.
