This thematic area addresses issues related to the creation of a supportive environment for innovative development and knowledge-based competitiveness of the UNECE member States, including issues related to the financing for innovative development and innovative entrepreneurship.
CECI’s activities in this thematic area aim at knowledge sharing and the exchange of experiences gained and lessons learned, as well as the identification of good practices leading to the formulation of better policies.
The Committee will support the broad dissemination of good practices and policy options for creating a supportive environment for innovative development in the UNECE region, including capacity-building activities in requesting countries.
Innovation Performance Reviews are a major new focus of work for the Economic Cooperation and Integration Division. Initiated at the request of member state Governments, they are a participatory policy advisory service examining possible policy actions to stimulate innovation activities, enhance innovation capacity and improve the efficiency of national innovation systems.
As part of the review of the 2005 UNECE reform, the Commission decided at its 65th session in April 2013 that work previously done under a separate Team of Specialists on Intellectual Property should be integrated into the work of the Team of Specialists on Innovation and Competitiveness Policies, and that technical cooperation activities on the commercialization of intellectual property should be phased out by the end of 2014. Information on the work done on intellectual property prior to 2014 can be found here.
