Introduction

United Nations Secretary-General announced on 29 April 2015 the appointment of Jean Todt as his Special Envoy for Road Safety. Mr. Todt is the President of Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) - Terms of Reference and Mr. Todt's CV.

Every year, some 1.3 million people are killed and up to 50 million people are injured on the world’s roads. Half of all road traffic deaths are among vulnerable road users such as pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists. The Special Envoy attended the webinar “Mobility and COVID-19: A Blessing in Disguise for Road Safety” hosted by IDB to discuss the impact of COVID-19 outbreak on mobility and how this emergency is being used as an opportunity to give a new shape to safe mobility.
