The Group started its activities in December 2001. By early autumn 2002 it had developed the
first version of the core questionnaire that was field tested in UK and Russia with financial support of the
MPIDR, and reviewed by a number of prominent experts commissioned by the PAU.
A revised version of the core questionnaire accompanied with an explanatory text was then
presented for discussion to the Meeting of the GGP International Working
Group (IWG) in Prague in February 2003. In spring
2003 the Group developed four optional sub–modules. Both the mandatory core questionnaire and the four optional
sub-modules were approved as GGS instruments by the GGP Consortium Board in October 2003.
In spring 2004, the Group developed the manual for interviewers and field managers.
Its main task of questionnaire development being accomplished, the Group is focusing on finalizing
the conceptual article that explains the underlying theoretical concepts and objectives of the questionnaire.
The Group also occasionally consults GGS national committees on country–specific issues of implementing the
questionnaire.
