How I became an enterpreneur?
|
"I became an Entrepreneur late in life. Up to that time I had been employed. My initial and first major position at the age of eighteen was working with one of the largest advertising agencies in Sydney, Australia. This job was only
secondary to my life at the time as I was studying at the Conservatorium of Music in Sydney with the prime aim of becoming an opera singer.
As I was creative and inclined towards the arts, I felt comfortable in the world of advertising, and the knowledge and experience I had gained subsequently served me in good stead, twenty years later my husband and I opened up our
advertising and marketing company, Adam Ltd in Malta.
En route I raised three children. Previous experience working in the film
industry and the theatre over the years also proved invaluable experience. My husband and I also ran our own Theatre company, which performed, regularly at the prestigious Manoel Theatre, one of the oldest European theatres in the capital city, Valletta.
Adam was the first Maltese company to have a monthly magazine Airforces International distributed internationally. One of our most successful publication is Victory in the Air a book which tells the story of the air battle for Malta in world war II. The company published an in-flight magazine for AirMalta's charter flights and also represented prestigious brands of perfumes and accessories for duty free sales.
I also hold the agency for "Kreepy-Krauly" automatic pool cleaners, a product that I introduced successfully onto the market in 1986. Having seen this
product in action on a visit to Australia one year and being alert to
business opportunities I immediately concluded an agency agreement.
Much of the companies creative experience has culminated in the production of special-interest documentaries. The company has restructured and diversified over the years due to market forces however, as a team we have
always been fortunate in being able to move on successfully by drawing on our creative resources."

Message for the 21st century
|
"Competition in the business arena is far greater today than it was thirty years ago. An instinct for business is a start but not a secure springboard. Many Entrepreneurs in the past had to learn by hands-on experience. Today that is not necessary. Many countries today have structures in place that offer future entrepreneurs the opportunity of specialised training, re-training programmes, advice on the preparation a business plan and micro-credit facilities. However, relevant data and legislation need to be further investigated, addressed and implemented across the board to support women entrepreneurs and ameliorate the role of women in economic development, many of whom opt primarily for small, medium enterprises to better balance work
and family responsibilities."
