The UN Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA), supported
by UNECE and UNESCAP, aims to strengthen subregional cooperation between
its member countries: Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan,
Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
The SPECA Project Working Group on Gender and Economy (PWG) was initiated
by the International
conference on strengthening subregional economic cooperation in Central
Asia and the future role of SPECA (Astana, May 2005). The PWG was established
by the SPECA Governing Council (Baku, June
2006).
Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan are the Co-Chairs
of the Working Group.
PWG main objectives:
- Raising awareness on gender and economy issues policy through policy
oriented research, development of gender disaggregated data and capacity
building activities;
- Developing synergies with other SPECA activities.
