UNECE signs United Nations Partnership Framework for Development for 2016-2020 with Kazakhstan

UNECE and the United Nations country team announced today that they will strengthen their support to Kazakhstan’s sustainable development efforts over the next five years. This will be achieved through the implementation of a United Nations Partnership Framework for Development (UNPFD) for 2016 – 2020 signed on 22 July by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yerzhan Ashikbayev.

The overall objective of the PFD is “To develop a new pathway for strategic partnership with Kazakhstan, to achieve the ‘Kazakhstan 2050’ vision, by building a prosperous, equitable and inclusive society, strengthening the accountability and effectiveness of public institutions, and facilitating the country’s regional and international co-operation”.

More specifically, the UNPFD aims to strengthen the partnership between the United Nations Country Team and the Government of Kazakhstan in three strategic pillars of action:

1)    Reduced disparities and improved human development
2)    Strengthened and innovative public institutions
3)    Enhanced international and regional co-operation.
UNECE has committed to contribute to the following UNPFD outcomes by 2020:
·         Diversification of the economy provides decent work opportunities for the underemployed, youth and socially vulnerable women and men;
·         Ecosystems and natural resources are protected and sustainably used, and human settlements are resilient to natural and manmade disasters and climate change;
·         The Government, together with partners, promotes the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the region and leads in promoting and implementing United Nations principles, standards and Conventions.
