UNECE to discuss Public Private Partnerships options to renovate the Palais des Nations

The fifth Session of the UNECE Team of Specialists on Public Private Partnerships (TOS PPP) will be held at the Palais des Nations, Geneva from 5-6 February 2012.

The meeting will focus on the activities of the UNECE International PPP Centre of Excellence - a coordinating hub based within UNECE in Geneva – and of its affiliated specialist centres responsible for the preparation of sectoral guides on best practices in PPPs. Participants will discuss the role of PPPs in the renovation of public buildings, with a focus on the renovation of the Palais des Nations. Eminent PPP experts will discuss the various legal and institutional issues to be addressed, should member States decide to take the PPP route to refurbish the Palais des Nations. These include procurement, financing models and staffing/labor issues, from the perspective of both the public and private sector.

The meeting is expected to attract 200 delegates from 50 countries, including major construction companies, and will be jointly opened by UNECE Executive Secretary Sven Alkalaj and Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

The UNECE International PPP Centre of Excellence was launched in February 2012 with the support of key international partners. Its main objectives are to identify international best practice; provide governments with quality information on best practice PPP projects; and build national capacity on PPPs.
