Energy Community Secretariat, Am Hof 4 Vienna Austria

The transition to a sustainable energy future requires deep changes in the energy system. As national circumstances vary significantly, countries will choose different pathways to meet commitments they have made. The Pathways to Sustainable Energy project seeks to explore options available to governments to attain a sustainable energy future based on a set of concrete sustainable energy scenarios and adaptive policy pathways.

This workshop is the first of a set of stakeholder consultations and workshops focusing on the modeling and conceptual processes during 2018 and 2019.  The objective is to discuss relevant findings of the modeling work undertaken by partnering organizations Fraunhofer, IIASA and PNNL. The consultations will direct the formulation of scenarios, metrics and sustainable energy target definition, and shape the projects sub-regional and/or technological deep-dives. In addition, the exchange with stakeholders seeks to shed further light on the definition of what is sustainable energy and how to define the sustainable energy targets for 2050.

The consultation process targeted some 25-30 participants from diverse backgrounds including country stakeholders, existing project stakeholders, energy sector experts, as well as energy modelers. Representation of participants across all modeling sub-regions was achieved.
