POSTPONED - Fifteenth Session of the Group of Experts on Coal Mine Methane

23 - 24 March 2020

Salle XXI, Palais des Nations, Geneva, Switzerland

Regretfully, the Global Methane Forum 2020, including the 15th session of the Group of Experts on CMM, will not take place as scheduled this March in Geneva, due to public health concerns related to coronavirus.
We appreciate the strong interest and support for this event, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
It is our intent to reschedule the Global Methane Forum to take place in 2021;
please visit this page for updates.

The session will start with a panel discussion on digitalization and monitoring methane emissions. It will be followed by the debate on the future of the Group, which will constitute a continuation of the discussion started during the 14th session held in November 2019 in Geneva. Under that item the members will also provide their feedback on a draft letter to the UN Secretary General prepared by the Chairs of the Groups of Experts on Coal Mine Methane (CMM) and on Cleaner Electricity Systems (CES). In the afternoon the session will feature the tenth joint meeting of the Group of Experts on CMM and the Global Methane Initiative (GMI) Coal Subcommittee.

On 24 March there will be a plenary session of the Global Methane Forum 2020. The event will start with a number of keynote speeches delivered by high-level speakers from governments, international organizations, and industry. The two panel discussions that will follow the keynote speeches will address the financial aspects of methane mitigation, with special attention to the costs and consequences of inaction, and will attempt to identify the most effective drivers of action to reduce emissions, focusing on regulation, industry voluntary action, innovation, and coordination of efforts of various stakeholders across different extractive industries at any stage of their value chains.

For more information about the Global Methane Forum 2020 (GMF 2020) please visit a page dedicated to the event.

Please also note that on Wednesday, 25 March, back to back with the 15th session, the Group will organize a workshop on Abandoned Mine Methane and Mine Closure.

To register for the 15th session, please visit a page dedicated to the Global Methane Forum where you can register for the Forum. Please remember that registration is obligatory and can be done directly at: https://uncdb.unece.org/app/ext/meeting-registration?id=UeGSOo. Kindly note that once you register for the Forum, a badge that you will pick up at the gate will be valid for the whole week (23-27 March 2020) allowing you to attend all the events, including the 15th session of the Group of Experts.
